Year 5 Camp

Last weekend Year 5 camped on the school field.  We did lots of activities, such as zorbing, a water fight, making shelters, toasting marshmallows on the fire and a treasure hunt.  We had a brilliant, lovely, awesome time.

Art - Through My Window Collage

As part of the local geography topic 'Through My Window' year 5 have created landscape collages.  Each picture is a view from the child's house window.  They did a sketch at home as a home learning activity and worked from this to create some fantastic art work.

Geography - Fieldword Around Blandford St Mary

This is us doing the traffic survey.
Recently Year 5 had a trip around Blandford St Mary.  On the trip we did a survey on the traffic coming from and to Dorchester. Also we had a look at the natural areas, amenities, shops and services. We thought about the quality of different environments.  For example, by the Dorchester Road it was very noisy, over 100 decibels.  In a traffic survey we counted 18 cars, 1 bike and 1 lorry in just 1 minute. This was very different to Stour Meadows where there is a variety of nature and much quieter. In BSM we have a Tesco and a Homebase store. We also found out that the population of BSM was 1460 in 2007.

History - Visit to Nothe Fort

On Monday the 26th of March Year 5 went on a school trip to Nothe Fort, Weymouth. It was a great trip and we learnt alot about life in Britain during World War Two.  For example, we learnt WWII songs, how children got evacuated, what it felt like in a air raid shelter (Anderson and Morrison), 1940's shopping and laundry room, and what it was like at school.

DT - Spitfire Models and Enterprise Week

During Enterprise Week Year 5 have been making Spitfire planes. The Spitfire planes were used before, during and and after WWII and were an outstanding piece of machinery that helped Britain to win a major air battle known as 'The Battle of Britain'.  We made them out of wood, paper, elastic bands, paper clips, beads and propellers. We painted them to make them look like real Spitfires. We had great fun making them, and they look amazing.  So we hope your children will buy them they are soooooooooo good. Written by CR and EG

Art- Homework

On the 23rd of January y5 had been given homework to design their own labryth. Some people drew a picture. Some people made a 3D model so they used lego, old cereal boxes or a shoe box, and some made a key for their labyrinth. All of them are amazing. One even had food stuck on to it. Most of them had blood, crushed bones and of course Theseus and the Minotaur.

Art - Apollo 11 Moon Landing

Y5 have been learning about the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969 when the first man walked on the moon.
Everyone recreated their own image of the moon landing. Lots of people did 2D, but some did 3D with
the man, the Lunar Module, the USA flag and the craters standing up.
